We know that when you need a specialist, you want one fast.
Expedited Referrals
HealthCare Partners has a wide network of specialists and other health care providers to serve your medical needs.
If your health plan requires an authorization before you can see a specialist, your HealthCare Partners’ doctor can usually authorize such services immediately. In most cases, when your doctor requests that you receive specialist services, your referral will be authorized before you leave your doctor’s office. In fact, the vast majority of our patients rate the ease of our referral process as “excellent” or “very good.” Our doctors make referral decisions based on the care you need. They do not receive any financial rewards or penalties for referrals that are approved or denied.
In some cases, your doctor may determine that you need services that are more complex or that require coordination to ensure that you receive the proper overall care. These more complex referrals must be reviewed by HealthCare Partners’ Care Management Committee. You will be notified of the decision within seven days of the request. Of course, if you ever have questions about your referral, you can also call your doctor or our Patient Support Center.
HealthCare Partners doctors make every effort to refer you quickly to high-quality specialists who will be able to see you on a timely basis. Nevertheless, many specialist offices are very busy, and because of this, you may have to wait before you will be able to see him/her. Should you have any questions about any possible delays, please feel free to contact our Patient Support Center.
